Janet Allison Glaser, 78, currently of Raleigh, North Carolina, died peacefully in her home on August 14, 2016. She was with her husband, Rollin, and daughter, Allison. Janet suffered a long illness that incapacitated her physically, yet did not dilute her indomitable spirit and love for life.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 E. Edenton Street, Raleigh, NC. Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN.
Janet was born March 12, 1938, in Fargo, North Dakota, and grew up in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She spent her summers teaching swimming and sailing in Detroit Lakes. Janet was one of three daughters of Bob and Elsa Allison.
She was a Northwestern University Speech Education graduate and member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She began her career as an elementary school teacher. She subsequently became a successful real estate broker in Santa Barbara, California.
Janet had a life-long passion for the arts in each city she lived in, Santa Barbara, Houston, Santa Fe, and Raleigh. She particularly loved the opera and served on the Houston Grand Opera Board of Directors. She was Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Longleaf Opera in Durham, NC. Currently she was on the Board of Directors for the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York.
Janet is survived by her husband, Rollin Glaser of Raleigh, North Carolina, her daughter Allison St. Clair also of Raleigh, and three grandchildren, Victoria, Alexander, and Augustus.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Janet’s memory to the charity of your choice in support of the arts or education.
