James Schrom

October 28, 1950 — December 19, 2011

James Frederick Schrom, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, December 19, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota. He was 60 years old at the time of his death. Jim was born on October 28, 1951, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of John and Kathryn (Aldrich) Schrom. He lived in the Fergus Falls and Rush Lake area during his growing up years, graduating from Fergus Falls High School in 1968. He entered the service when he was 17 and served with the 101st Airborne Division for two tours of duty in Viet Nam. He received several merit awards including three purple hearts for his courageous actions in the line of duty. He was then honorably discharged. He married Lynette Lammers and to that union were born two children. After the service Jim returned to the Fergus Falls area and lived the rest of his life there. He enjoyed bird hunting, fishing, and spending time with his children teaching them about the outdoors, the arts, and laughing. His family wants to remember Jim as the hero that he was, his strong faith in God, and the humbleness that he walked in. Preceding him in death were his mother and father. Jim is survived by his daughter, Jamie Lynn (Edward) of Cass Lake, and his son Zachariah of Fergus Falls; five grandchildren; a brother, Jay (Polly) Schrom of St. Paul; and sisters, Susan Davis and Debra Hoyhtya both of Stillwater. A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will follow the service. Afterwards, a procession will travel to St. Lawrence Church Cemetery on Rush Lake where official military honors will be given and he will be laid to rest. Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
