James P. Ouren, 76, a resident of Erhard, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
He was born December 2, 1937, in Erhard Grove Township to Henry (Hank) and Selma (Johnson) Ouren. He graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1956 and ran Jim’s Service in Erhard and then worked for Ouren Construction until he retired. James was a member of the National Guard for 21 years.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Erhard, where he served on the church council. James also served on the Erhard City Council.
James was united in marriage to Sheila (Johanson) Ouren on September 7, 1957 and to this union four children were born, Jeffrey (Patty) Ouren, of Fergus Falls, Sherri (Clayton) Peterson, of Erhard, Shelly (Brian) Fresonke, of Erhard, Jerry (Karrie) Ouren, of Elizabeth; grandchildren, Stephanie (Nathan) Hoff, Ben Ouren (Kirsta), Michael (Megan) Rieken, Sarah (Chris) Syverson, Tim (Brittany) Peterson, Christopher Haugen, Abby Fresonke, Jay Fresonke, Alesha Ouren, Alexis Ouren; six great-grandchildren, Jackson Peterson, Ayla Hoff, Aiden and Christian Syverson, Logan Peterson, Jane Rieken.
James enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening, playing cards, pool and trying his luck at the casino, but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, LeRoy (Marilyn) Ouren, Clifford Ouren; sister, Sylvia (Orin) Kozial; sisters-in-law, Pat Ouren and Karen Ouren, Sandy (Steve) Manderfeld; brothers-in-law, Adrian Westergard, Ted (Harriet) Johanson and Allen Swanson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers, Harold, Lester, Roy; sisters, Joyce Thiel and Sharon Westergard; sisters-in-law, Jean Ouren and Carol Ouren.
Visitation: Monday, November 17, 5-7p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Olson Funeral Home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church
Funeral Service: Tuesday, November 18, 11a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Erhard
