James A. Metcalf, 92, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, February 10, 2013, at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls.
He was born February 18, 1920, in New London, Minnesota the son of Allen P. and Ellen G. (Erickson) Metcalf. He grew up near New London where he attended rural school and graduated from high school. He then attended a national youth camp where he learned to be a welder and an auto body repairman. He owned and operated a gas station and body shop in Lake City, Minnesota. He later moved to Red Wing where he was a shop foreman for Jorgenson Chevrolet.
On October 15, 1949 he married Dorothy Kirkwood in St. Paul. They made their home in St. Paul where he worked for Hatfield Queenan as their Body Shop Foreman. They moved to Thief River Falls where he was Service Manager for Northern Chevrolet. In 1958 the family moved to Fergus Falls where Jim worked for Minnesota Motors for 25 years until his retirement.
Jim loved spending time at their East Lost Lake home, where they lived from 1976 – 1993. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, doing crossword puzzles, car trips, traveling, and was a handyman for many people.
He was an active member of the ELKS on the local and national level and past Exalted Ruler, and was also a member of the Fergus Falls Eagles and Augustana Lutheran Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, LoRayne Hollison, and two brothers, Leonard and Dean.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Fergus Falls; a son, James (Wendy) Metcalf of Fergus Falls; two grandsons: Todd (Kari) Metcalf and their children Brady and Alexis of Moorhead, and Tony (Hallie) Metcalf and their children Grace, Katelyn, Ella, and Joseph of Fergus Falls; a sister, Maxine Monson of Willmar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred to Lakeland Hospice.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls.

Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery in Fergus Falls.
