James “Jim” William Solin, 60, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, November 21, 2014 at Lake Region Hospital.
He was born January 7, 1954 in Detroit Lakes to Clarence and Mildred (Lofthus) Solin. Jim grew up by Vergas, attending country school and graduating from Perham High School in 1973. He then attended Forestry School in Vergas, working for a fence factory in Vergas, the turkey plant in Pelican Rapids and then the Pal-O-Pak Insulation in Underwood. While in Fergus Falls, he worked for the City of Fergus Falls, street department, Runningen Furs and a variety of restaurants including, Haugen’s Café.
On June 30, 1978 he was united in marriage to Donna Anderson of Doran at the Federated Church.
Jim loved family time and potlucks and also enjoyed walking in the woods, nature, riding bike and washing dishes. He liked Morning Watch on the radio.
He was a member of Federated Church, AA group and a Special Olympics supporter. He enjoyed hanging out in his garage and the Viking Café.
Preceding him in death was his father, Clarence; father-in-law, Glen Anderson.
Jim is survived by his mother, Mildred; loving wife, Donna of Fergus Falls; son, Matt Solin of Fergus Falls; mother-in-law, Mary Anderson of Fergus Falls; brothers-in-law, Henry (Kathy) Striffler of Idaho, Dale (Carol) Anderson of Breckenridge and Dave Anderson of Breckenridge. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other family members.
Visitation: 2-5 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2014 with a 3 p.m. public prayers service at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 1 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2014 at Federated Church in Fergus Falls.
