Irene Stroschein
Irene Stroschein, 86, a resident of rural Underwood, died Saturday, March 26, 2016 in Fergus Falls.
Irene was born November 30, 1929 on the family farm in rural Doran, MN, the daughter of George J. Hansen, Sr. and Dorothy Sophia (Schmidt) Hansen. She grew up on the flats of Wilkin County close to Foxhome. She was confirmed in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Elizabeth. She attended rural schools in Wilkin County and attended Breckenridge High School.
She married Max Stroschein Jr. on September 22, 1948 in her family’s home on the farm in rural Foxhome. The couple moved to Plymouth, Michigan where her husband found work at original Daisy Air Rifle plant. She had the care of her two children and also helped her husband build the family home. Max, her husband then became a cutting tool maker and eventually formed his own tool company. Irene went to work to help support the family while this new venture grew.
Irene was active member of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Plymouth, serving on the Altar Guild, and many other activities of the women’s group, also active with the church’s day school where her children attended.
In 1971 her and Max moved back to Minnesota sold his partnership and planned to semi-retire. They moved to Underwood, MN, and built their home.
Irene was constantly busy with her sewing, machine embroidery, canning and even became quite computer savvy even despite her years. She was not afraid of physical work having grown up on the farm. She took pride in her son, Thayne and daughter, Dianne, her son-in-law, Herbert and her three granddaughters, Allison, Sarah & Simone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max, her parents, 3 brothers (Louis, George and Chester), 3 sisters (Agnes, Hattie, & Mary Jane),
Survivors include: two children: Dianne (Herbert) Park, Pinckney, MI; Thayne Stroschein of Underwood; three granddaughters: Allison Park of Ann Arbor, MI; Sarah Stroschein of Santa Monica, CA; and Simone Stroschein of Albertville, MN; one sister, Delores Bjerketvedt of Detroit Lakes, MN; two brothers: Elroy Hansen of Vining, MN and Harold Hansen of Alaska.
A memorial service is being planned at a later date.
