Irene A. Saurer, 91, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, April 26, 2013, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
Irene was born on December 31, 1921 in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Christopher and Theolina (Asmundson) Anderson. She grew up in Fergus Falls and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1942.
On April 17, 1943 she married Vernon Saurer in Elizabeth. She joined Vernon in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada while he served in the Army AirForce, working on the Alaskan Highway. They returned to Fergus Falls upon his discharge where she has resided since.
Throughout her life she was a caregiver, working as a nursing assistant at the Pioneer Home for over 28 years. Her true joy was being a loving mother and grandmother. She spent her entire life being involved with her family and friends and attending all the children’s activities.
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. The highlight of their summers was spending time at the Swan Lake cabin. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing for family get togethers. She will be remembered for her kind and loving ways.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Vernon; siblings, Olaf, Mildred, Alvin, Kermit and son-in-law, Byron Stock.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia (Wayne) Stock, Gloria Stock; two sons, Dwayne (Doreen) Saurer, Gerald (Vicki) Saurer all of Fergus Falls; eight grandchildren, Kevin (Kana) Stock, Stacy (Jamie) Stock, Kimberly (Kevin) Langbehn, Julie (Zach) Nelson, Angela (Josh) Kvale, Jessica (Jeremy) Johnson, Kari (Derek) Pederson, Heidi (Travis) Toso; numerous great and great-great grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Mertice Saurer of Fergus Falls.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls
