Irene Sand

Irene Anette Walock Sand, 88 of Fergus Falls, died Sunday July 19, 2009, at the Pioneer Retirement Community, Fergus Falls. Irene was born on April 18, 1921, near Sioux Valley, MN, the daughter of Henry and Ruth (Hughes) Gott. The family moved to North Dakota where she graduated from High School in the LaMoure, ND area. She later graduated from Valley City College, Valley City ND. In 1941, she married Ernest Walock at Webster, SD. They lived in the Oakes, ND area for several years. Ernest died in 1970.    She then moved to Ellendale, ND where she married Edwin Sand. In 1996 she became a resident of Fergus Falls, where she has lived since. Preceding her in death were her two husbands; two sisters, Ines and Anna; and two brothers, Frank and Robert. Survivors include a daughter, Aloma Martin of Fergus Falls, two sons, James (Jeannie) Walock, of Hillman, MN and Michael (Heather) Walock, of Casper, WY; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Interment will be held in Frederick, SD.  Private services will be held at a later date.
