Irene Kumm

Irene Rose Kumm, 83, of Fairfax, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010, at Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato, Minnesota. She was born March 26, 1927, in Otter Tail County near Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Schroeder) Wedll. On September 13, 1949, Irene was united in marriage to Rolla Otto Kumm at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Elizabeth.  After marriage, the couple lived their entire lives in Minnesota in the communities of Fergus Falls, Babbitt, Balaton, Buffalo Lake, Hector and Olivia. They were blessed with seven children and shared 49 years of marriage. Most recently Irene lived at the Fairfax Community Nursing Home in Fairfax. Irene was a long standing member of St. Elizabeth's Parish.  She was baptized, confirmed and married there.  Her faith and profound belief in God assisted her as she instilled her religious values and strong sense of family love to her children. Irene was fond of camping at the lake with her husband and family.  Her greatest joy was being with her children and in conversations about her grandchildren.  She loved music, playing her organ and singing.  She always wanted to have fun and had a great sense of humor.  She made friends wherever she went and because she lived in many places, she has friends across Minnesota.  Irene enjoyed collecting glass elephants and dolphins.  She loved shopping for jewelry and clothing and was often complimented on her good taste. Irene is survived by her seven children: Wayne (Sandy) Kumm of Ortonville, MN, Carol (Ron) Fredrickson of Hector, MN, Debra (Duane) Carrow of Marshall, MN, Ronda (Ken) Bemmels of Fairfax, MN, David (Cheryl) Kumm of Fairmont, MN, Susan (John) Gard of Huron, SD, and Danny (Shirley) Kumm of Montevideo, MN; eighteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; her sister, Rita; several sisters and brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Rolla, four brothers, one sister, two sisters-in-law, and three brothers-in-law. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2010, at Brenny Hall at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church.  A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening with the rosary following.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Elizabeth, MN.  Father Stan Wieser will officiate.  Burial in the church cemetery will follow the service.  Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of arrangements.
