Irene Viola Kraning, 86, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Country Hills Residence, near Weetown.
Irene was born on July 8, 1929, to Arne and Mabel (Olson) Haro in Gackle, ND. She attended grade school and graduated from high school in LaMoure, ND.
On May 3, 1949, she married John Kraning in Wahpeton, ND. After they were married, the couple moved to Denver, CO, for a couple of years. In her younger years, she worked as a server in a candy store in LaMoure and as a bookkeeper at a winery in Denver, CO. In 1951, the couple returned to LaMoure, where they operated Kraning Jewelry. In 1967, they moved to Fergus Falls where they purchased Hauberg Jewelry. Irene and John worked side by side, running the Kraning Jewelry until their retirement, when their son, Rick, took over the family business. In the jewelry business, she enjoyed the sales, design and accounting side of the business.
Irene’s love was gardening in her flower beds. She also enjoyed her many collections, decorating for the holidays and jewelry making.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arne and Mabel Haro; her husband, John Kraning; and her siblings, Clifford, Ethel and Arne, Jr.
Irene is survived by her sons, Calvin (Barb) Kraning of Battle Lake, and Rick Kraning of Fergus Falls; a granddaughter, Jackie (Tim) Scott of Colorado; a grandson, Kyle Kraning of Fargo; a great-grandson, John Scott; her sisters, Barbara Haro and Margaret Haro; her brothers, James Haro and Rodney Haro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
As per Irene’s request, there will not be a funeral. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date.
