Ida Hanson

February 2, 1916 — January 30, 2011

Ida Rosella Brorby Hanson, 94, a resident of Fergus Falls, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, January 30, 2011, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. She was born on February 2, 1916, at the family farm in Isabel Township of Benson County, North Dakota, the daughter of Lars and Gina (Ness) Brorby. She was raised on the farm and attended Isabel Township School. On June 27, 1937, Ida married Herman Hanson at the Brorby farm. They were blessed with four children. They farmed near Esmond, North Dakota until 1959 when they moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Ida worked at Broen Memorial Home for 23 years. She was very proud of getting her LPN license. The Hanson family enjoyed farm life and a close relationship with neighbors, relatives, and friends in the community. Fellowship at church and frequent attendance at prayer meetings anchored their deep faith in God. Music always played a large role in special gatherings, but also in daily activities at home. Ida loved reading, crocheting, and baking apple pie or lefse with Herman. She loved the Bible Studies in their home, entertaining, and family gatherings, especially with her grandchildren. She was Sunday School Superintendent, and was active with many activities at church. She loved serving her Lord. She also loved camping, traveling, and snowmobiling. She was a wonderful example to her family. She said her motto was "Lasting joy and peace can only be found in knowing the Lord". She had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. Preceding her in death were her parents, Lars and Gina Brorby; her husband, Herman, on January 13, 2010; one brother, Oscar Brorby; two sisters, Mable Stevens, and Gladys Lider; and by one son-in-law, Roger Shjerve.
