Hubert N. Svare

Hubert Norris Svare, 94, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, July 8, 2018.

He was born on November 16, 1923, to Melvin and Betsy (Bye) Svare in Thief River Falls, MN. The family moved to Rothsay, MN, where they farmed. They later farmed in Buse Township.

On November 26, 1944, Hubert married Dorothy E. Hauge at the Svare farm in rural Fergus Falls where they made their home.

Hubert had his own sanitation business, drove the city bus, and farmed. He retired in the early 1980’s from the city after 31 years of working at the landfill. In his retirement, Hubert worked for the Fergus Falls School District for a time.

Hubert enjoyed welding, working in the shop, and carpentry. He also enjoyed deer hunting, camping, and spending time with his family, especially his grand, great, and great-great-grandchildren. Hubert built and drove countless race cars, and even worked as the racetrack flagman.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Dorothy in 2004; brother, Art Svare; sister, Darlene Olson-Hanson; and nieces, Cindy Kubitz, Diane Olson.

Survivors include his two sons, Allen (Judy) Svare of Fergus Falls, Wayne (Bonnie) Svare of Fergus Falls; five grandchildren, Marty (Maria) Svare, Dawn (Barry) Schleske, Tammy (Gene) Smith, Ron Svare, Adam Svare; five great-grandchildren, Matthew (Ashley) Schleske, Nicole Schleske, Tyler Schleske, Ashley Smith, Cody Smith; five great-great-grandchildren, Tucker, Cooper, Gunner, Sawyer, Ehver; sisters, Margaret Richter of Fergus Falls, Joyce (Ernie) Kubitz of Pelican Rapids, Lillian (Myron) Holen of Arizona; and brother, Curtis (Kay) Svare of Fergus Falls.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2018, with a 6:30 p.m. public prayer service at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Elizabeth, MN
Clergy: Reverend Kate Bruns
Interment: Augustana Cemetery, Elizabeth, MN
