Howard Goese

Howard Eugene Goese, 76, of rural Fergus Falls, died suddenly at his home on Monday, January 3, 2011. He was born May 5, 1934 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Eugene and Hazel (Buth) Goese. He was baptized on May 27, 1934, and confirmed on March 31, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Howard grew up on the family farm in rural Fergus Falls, attending country school at District #1496, and high school in Fergus Falls, graduating in 1952. On May 21, 1960, he married Luwana Halvorson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. The couple made their home on the farm Howard had purchased in Fergus Falls Township, where he continued to farm until his death. Howard served as chairman of the Fergus Falls Township Board and the West Otter Tail County Township Association, and worked part time for the Otter Tail County Highway Department and as a Ditch Viewer for Otter Tail County. He was also a past officer of the Fergus Falls Fish and Game Club, and served on the Co-op Oil Board. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Luwana in 2005, and his sister-in-law, Shirley Dewey. Survivors include his son, Craig (Debbie) Goese of Fergus Falls; his grandson, John Michael Runningen; his sister, Debbie (Loren) Thormodson of Dalton; a brother-in-law, Jim Dewey of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
