Howard Kenneth Buchholz, 84, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, where he had lived for 4 ½ years. He was born November 3, 1925, in Friberg Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the son of Carl and Mary “Mayme” (Bappe) Buchholz. He was baptized December 13, 1925, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, West Friberg, by Rev. Wm. Kanning, and was confirmed there on August 6, 1939, by Rev. Arnold Cloeter. He attended District 66 School. Howard worked on the family farm as well as in carpentry, and operated the snowplow and grader for Otter Tail County. In October of 1950 he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany as a Medic during the Korean War. He was discharged in October of 1952. On October 24, 1953, he married Carol Wik at the Evansville Covenant Church. In 1954 they purchased their farm in Aurdal Township where they resided until 1997 when they moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Fergus Falls; four sons: Steven (Janet) of Cambridge, MN, Daryl (Sandra) of Shakopee, MN, Scott (Martha) of Battle Lake, MN, and Gary (Karla) of Maple Grove, MN; 12 grandchildren: Carrie (Chuck) Stevermer, Angie (Kyle) Keyes, Marcy (Patrick) Watts, Erik Bagley, and Amy, Luke, Spencer, Austin, Megan, Stephen, Zachary and Brian Buchholz; a great-grandchild, Chloe Ann Stevermer; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Preceding his death were his parents, Carl and Mayme; his brothers, Lloyd, Everett, Irvin, and Gerald, who died in infancy; and one sister, Marjorie Brenaman.
