Homer Gausmel Goebel, 96, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday August 12, 2017 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.
Homer was born August 24, 1920 in Belfield, ND to William and Annette (Gausmel) Goebel. After graduating from Fargo Central High School with the class of 1937, he attended North Dakota Agricultural College, graduating in 1942. He then joined the Army Air Corps and was stationed in Oklahoma at the Darr School of Aeronautics where he met his wife Millie Stout. They were married on October 30, 1943.
Homer graduated from flight training in 1944. Millie and Homer returned to Fargo after WWII in October 1945 where they raised their family until 1995 when they retired to their home on Lake Melissa. In 1947, Homer participated in the creation of the North Dakota Air National Guard.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and one son, Homer G. Goebel Jr. in 1963.
He is survived by his wife, Millie of Detroit Lakes; children, Jon of Argus, CA, Brian of San Clemente, CA, Bruce of Kingman, AZ, and Kathy of Milwaukee, WI.
