Herman Hanson

August 12, 1912 — January 13, 2010

Herman Melvin Hanson, 97, a resident of Fergus Falls, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. He was born August 12, 1912, the son of Sigurd and Sophie (Haugen) Hanson, at rural Zahl, North Dakota, on Sigurd’s homesteaded land. In 1930 he graduated from Isabel High School in Esmond, North Dakota. On June 27, 1937, he married Ida Brorby at the Brorby farm. They were blessed with four children. He farmed at Esmond until 1959 when they moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota. There he worked at Broen Memorial Home until retiring in the spring of 1982 at 70 years of age. Herman loved playing guitar, singing, snowmobiling, camping, and sharing his love of the Lord. Horses were a big part of his life also. He and his wife loved entertaining, family gatherings, and Bible studies in their home. Dad’s favorite saying was “God has never made a mistake yet”. Survivors include his wife of 72 ½ years, Ida, three daughters: Addie Shjerve of Fergus Falls, LaVern (Randy) Todd of Lacey, Washington, and Shari (Craig) Vaughn of Fergus Falls; one son, Les (Sandy) Hanson of Fergus Falls; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Lyle and Selmer (Sam) Hanson, and a son-in-law, Roger Shjerve. Memorials are preferred to Lutheran Brethren Schools. There was a time to visit for family and friends on Sunday, January 17, 2010, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Light and Life Auditorium of the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls with a 6 p.m. prayer service. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010, at the Light and Life Auditorium of the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.  Interment will be at Bethlehem Cemetery in Fergus Falls.  Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of arrangements.
