Helen Rorvig

Helen Rorvig, 87, a life long resident of Rothsay, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. Helen Selvina was born on November 10, 1921 in Fergus Falls Township, of Otter Tail County, the daughter of Hildus Benard and Julia Othelia (Rian) Haldorson. She attended several rural schools including District #61 and #17 through the eighth grade. On March 16, 1945, she married James Wilhelm Rorvig in Sisseton, SD.  The couple resided and farmed near Rothsay on the Rorvig family farm for over 50 years. Helen worked for 11 years at the Pelican Rapids Turkey Plant, Thom Linen in Fergus Falls and as a waitress in Rothsay. She was a member of Hamar Lutheran Church in Rothsay. She was president of the Rothsay Senior Center and the Wilkin County Board on Aging and was also a member of the Trondjhem Homemakers. Helen was an active member of the Rothsay Senior Citizens and enjoyed the dinners, card playing and fellowship with friends. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and vegetable and flower gardening. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, James, who died on November 29, 2001; a daughter, Pamela (Bob) Barker, who died on July 17, 1991; two brothers, Julian and Norris Haldorson; a sister, Rosella Raw, who died on June 19, 2002 and a great-grandson, Adam Maack. Survivors include three children, Janice Rorvig of Walcott, ND, Elaine (Fred) Hansen of rural Rothsay and Chester (Elizabeth) Rorvig of St. Cloud; ten grandchildren, Julie (Rod Nordick) Lehman and Janelle Lehman, Rhonda (Shannon) Maack, Michael (Sue) Hansen, Thomas (Kayla Vang) Hansen and Jennifer (Chad) Tischer, Andrew (Amanda) Rorvig, Hannah (Brandon) Nelson, Emily (Bryan) Hammond and Abby Barker; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Ashley Maack; a son-in-law, Bob (Cathy) Barker of Fergus Falls, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.
