Helen Money

Helen Tuley Money, 89, a resident of Fergus Falls, formerly of Topeka, Kansas, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at her home under the care of Lakeland Hospice. She was born November 13, 1919, to Fred and Sadie (Schurman) Tuley of Huron, Kansas. They moved to Arlington, Kansas where she attended grade school. She graduated from Effingham High School in 1937 and went to Emporia State Teachers College and received her Teaching Certificate. Helen taught in a one room school house in Atchison County, Kansas for five years. On June 25, 1943, Helen married James E. Money and spent four years as a Navy wife during World War II. She worked as a secretary in the state office for the Christian Churches of Kansas in Topeka, Kansas for seventeen years, retiring in 1980. Helen then started oil painting and painted hundreds of pictures which she sold at craft shows in Kansas. She also loved to fish and often caught the first, biggest or most each outing.  She and Jim moved to River Bend Apartments in Fergus Falls in September, 2005. She liked to go to the Senior Citizens Center for lunch, play cards, participate in other activities with new friends at the center and at the apartment, and cheer for her grandchildren at sporting and music events. Helen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved to cook, bake pies and knit for her family and friends. She will be sorely missed. She was a member of the Northland Christian Church of Topeka, Kansas for fifty years and attended First Baptist Church in Fergus Falls. Preceding her in death were her father and mother, her sister, Marietta, and brother, Arthur. She is survived by her husband, James E. Money of Fergus Falls; two sons, James A. (Janelle) Money of Phoenix, AZ and Bruce (Sherri) Money of Fergus Falls; two granddaughters, Kelly Money and Shannon Money of Phoenix; three grandsons, Luke, Joel and Erik Money of Fergus Falls; one great-granddaughter, Victoria Nunez, and two great-grandsons, Nicholas and Nathaniel Money, all of Phoenix; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Memorials are preferred to Lakeland Hospice, PO Box 824, Fergus Falls MN 56538-0824.
