Helen Harriet Martinson, age 93, passed away peacefully March 23, 2017, at the LB Broen Home in Fergus Falls.
Helen was born to Harold and Annie (Gilbertson) Hartman on March 10, 1924, in Pequot Lakes.
She grew up around Dalton, where she attended Country school and went on to graduate from Fergus Falls High School in 1942. Helen married James Hutchinson in January of 1949 and had two children Donna and Danny. She later married Clarence Martinson on July 16, 1977, and the two of them made their home in Dalton.
Helen will be remembered for her love of family. She was devoted to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She attended every birthday party, graduation, confirmation, wedding, baptism, and school program she could. She also enjoyed flowers and traveling. One of her greatest adventures was a trip to Norway with Clarence in 1985.
Living each day for the Lord, she was fearless in her faith and very devoted to Christ and her church. She was a member of Zion-Sarpsborg Free Lutheran Church in Dalton and was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Federation group there.
Preceding her in death was her husband Clarence Martinson, son Curt Martinson, daughter-in-law Carolyn Martinson, grandson Chad Martinson, sister Evelyn McNiece, and brother George Hartman.
She is survived by her children Donna Sowers of Fergus Falls, Dan Hutchinson of Montana, Inez (Richard) Hanson of Dalton, and Roy (Phyllis) Martinson of Fargo, ND; her grandchildren Keith Sowers of Fergus Falls, Kimberly (Tom) Erhart of Bagley, Randy Hanson of Dalton, Daniel (Tracy) Hanson of Ashby, Travis (Michele) Martinson of Fergus Falls, Chris (Ashley) Martinson of Valley City, ND, Linda Martinson of Wahpeton, ND, and Missy Kuznia of Omaha, NE; her great-grandchildren Mackenzie Sowers, Chalsey (Adam) Barry, Brett Hanson, Drew Hanson, Reed Hanson, Kalyber Martinson, Landon Martinson, Mariah Martinson, Alyson Kuznia, Jacob Kuznia, Brandon Kuznia, Tate Martinson, and Kiah Martinson; her great-great-grandchildren Kylie and Breck Barry; a sister-in-law Lorella Hartman and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, at Zion-Sarpsborg Free Lutheran Church in Dalton, Minnesota
