Helen Grimm

Helen Eleanor Grimm, 88, of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, died Monday, March 14, 2011, at Elim Care Center in Fargo, North Dakota, where she had resided since January. She was surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born on the family farm near Carlisle, Minnesota, on December 10, 1922, the daughter of Ole N. and Lena (Sletvold) Nelson. She grew up on the farm, attended country school, and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1941. She married Herbert F. Grimm on June 7, 1947, at Hedemarken Lutheran Church in rural Carlisle. They resided in Fergus Falls where they raised their two daughters. Helen worked at the River Inn Hotel in Fergus Falls for many years and shared lifelong friendships with her co-workers. She was a dedicated homemaker and an active member of First Lutheran Church, Ruth Circle, and LCW. She was a Campfire Leader and enjoyed traveling with her family, dancing, and scrapbooking. Helen was a collector of bone china cups and saucers, each set having special meaning from a trip remembered or a special gift. She enjoyed many summers at the family cabin on Wall Lake and her beautiful flowers bloomed all year long. She co-founded a couples card club that lasted 40 years and always enjoyed sharing a good cup of coffee, visiting with friends, and opening her home for entertaining. Her love of people was shown through her generosity and concern for the well being of others. She cherished her family and was always so proud and supportive of their many accomplishments. Helen is survived by her daughters, Beverly Grimm, Fargo, ND, and Carol (Ron) Johnson, Bemidji, MN, granddaughter, Jennifer Johnson, Moorhead, MN, of whom she was especially proud, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a brother, Olaf. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, of 54 years, her parents, and her sister, Muriel Nelson. Helen will be remembered for her caring nature and beautiful smile.  Condolences may be sent in care of Beverly Grimm, 2413 18th Street South, Fargo ND 58103.
