Helen Ida Caroline Enquist, 94, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls.
She was born October 20, 1918, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Emil and Clara (Zill) Kielmeyer. She attended country school in Districts 30 and 31, and then Washington High School in Fergus Falls, graduating in 1937.
After graduation she worked at Wright’s Hospital and Nelson’s Café, where she met Arnold Enquist, the love of her life. They were married on November 9, 1940 at First United Church of Christ in Fergus Falls. Together they farmed in Buse Township until 1989 when they moved into Fergus Falls.
She was a lifetime member of First United Church of Christ where she was very active in the church, especially with the Women’s Guild, Circle, and working with the Fall Bazaar, Salad Luncheon, and quilting. She served on the Church Guild as President, Vice President and Secretary as well as Church Circle Chairman, and on many other church committees. She also was a school board member for District 31, and volunteered with Meals On Wheels and the Food Shelf.
Her family was her greatest joy, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook and bake, made the best homemade donuts and loved having people over for coffee. She enjoyed gardening, flower gardens, and making homemade quilts as well as quilting with the UCC ladies at church. Helen also had a love for animals, especially dogs.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Emil and Clara Kielmeyer, and her husband, Arnold, in 1998.
Survivors include her son, Wayne (Andrea) Enquist of Fergus Falls; grandchildren: Julie (Jim) Conrad of Long Prairie, and Jon (Gina) Enquist of Plymouth; great-grandchildren: Isabelle and Zander Conrad and Lydia and Nolan Enquist; and her lifelong friend, Sophy Hauschild, of Tyler ND.
