Helen Elvira Engel, 88, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls. She was born January 16, 1924 to Carl Milton and Clara Julie (Carlson) Erickson. The family lived in rural Fergus Falls. Helen attended Adams Elementary School and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1942. She married Marvin Engel on August 6, 1950 in Fergus Falls. Helen worked in Minneapolis at Sears and Gamble’s and returned to Fergus Falls where she was employed at Montgomery Ward. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Olson Auto Electric for 45 years and also had worked in the offices of Otter Tail Co-Op Oil, Kimber Awning and Bradford Interiors. She was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1936 and sang in the choir during the early years. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Club. Helen enjoyed puzzles, Scrabble, sightseeing in many states – Venezuela, Europe and 7 other countries. Preceding her in death were her husband Marvin, parents Milton and Julia Erickson; a sister: Jeanette Altoff, one brother: Gordon Erickson and a brother-in-law: Herman Althoff. Survivors include her two children, Calvin (Susan) Engel of Wichita, KS; and Marlene (Larry) Halvorson of Cooperstown, ND; grandsons; Jonathan and Adam Engel and Ben Halvorson. Also surviving is one sister, Grace (George) Keena and a niece: Carla (Dave) Uhreka.
