Harvey William Aasness, 84, of Fergus Falls, died Friday, June 13, 2014, at the Broen Memorial Home.
He was born June 10, 1930, in Fergus Falls, the son of Oscar and Emma (Halvorson) Aasness. He grew up on the family dairy farm, rural Fergus Falls, being the 3rd generation, of which is now a five generation farm.
On January 25, 1958, he married Darlene Umlauf at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake. They continued to make their home on the farm, where he was very proud to be a dairy farmer. In 1983, their farm was recognized as a century farm. In 1984, Harvey and Darlene started a Red and White Holstein herd and he continued to be active on the farm, along with his son, Kevin who is currently operating the farm.
Harvey was a lifelong member of Tordenskjold Free Lutheran Church, serving on the church board and was a Deacon. He loved to watch his grandchildren show Red and White Holsteins and their 4-H projects at the West and East Otter Tail County Fairs. Harvey also loved to watch the sports and activities all his grandchildren participated in. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage, speaking some Norwegian throughout his life. Harvey also enjoyed auctions, the Dalton Threshermens Reunion, antique tractors, stock car races, listening to sports on the radio, especially basketball, and going out to eat.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Orville (Dorothy) and Kenneth; two sisters, Lorraine and Edna (Leonard) Shores; a grandson, Chance Lane Olson and his father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Ida Umlauf.
