Harlene Kay Cross

December 7, 1953 — August 8, 2015

Harlene Kay Cross, 61, of Ten Mile Lake, rural Dalton, passed away on Saturday, August, 8, 2015, at her home, under the care of her family and Lakeland Hospice.

She was born December 7, 1953, in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Harvey and Marcia (Crowe) Huseth. She attended elementary school in Wendell and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1971.

On September 11, 1971, she married Sam Cross at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wendell, where she was also baptized and confirmed. They spent the first four years of their marriage in Minot, ND, while Sam was in the Air Force. While living in Minot, they also managed a motel and she later worked at Trinity Medical Center in the admitting office. The family then moved to Fergus Falls, where she began her banking career at Western MN Savings and Loan. She took a seven year leave from banking when her children were young and ran a home daycare. She returned to banking as a personal banker, retiring from US Bank in Fergus Falls on May 2, 2014.

Harlene was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, she belonged to the Fergus Falls Chamber of Commerce, and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She spent time at the lake enjoying the sun, reading, doing crossword puzzles and suduko. She loved to travel to warm destinations with Sam, including Mexico, the Bahamas, and Puerto Rico. Most of all she enjoyed the precious time she spent with her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were mother, Marcia Huseth, and father and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Frances Cross.

Survivors include her husband, Sam; her father, Harvey Huseth of Elbow Lake; children, Robert (Wendy) Cross of Kenosha, WI, Jason Cross of Fergus Falls, and Dustin (Maggie) Cross of Sauk Centre; grandchildren, Alyssa, Andrew, Rylie, Maddison, Noah, Annabelle, Gabriel and soon to be born, baby Cross; sisters, Jody (Earl) Melchert of Barrett, Sandra Crichton of Hillsboro, ND; Lori (Tom) Grey of Naples, FL, and Linda (Rob) Fowell of Naples, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews, along with aunts, uncles, and cousins.
