Gunta Zunde Stegura, 61, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. She was born March 17, 1948, in Bamburg, Germany, the daughter of Edgar and Velta (Roze) Zunde. On December 10, 1949 she emmigrated to America with her family through Lutheran World Relief, and they settled in Greenville, Ohio. In 1961 the family moved to Minneapolis, where she graduated from Edison High School. In November of 1968 she married David Stegura in northeast Minneapolis. In 1981 the family moved to Texas, returning to Fridley in 1987. In February of 2001 she made the move to Fergus Falls, most recently working for Otter Tail County with Child Support Services. She loved horses, and was a member of the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Posse. She was also a facilitator for Beginning Experience, and had written and published a book. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. Gunta’s joys in life included a love of dancing, music, her family, and life. Preceding her in death were her grandmother, Olga Roze; her father, Edgar; and a nephew, David Sundby. Survivors include two daughters, Rachel (Scott) Russ of St. Francis, and Stephanie (Michael) Moore of Shakopee; four grandchildren: Sarah, Leah, Jacob, and Nathan; a sister, Rev. Zinta (Alan) Sundby of Underwood; her mother, Velta Zunde of Underwood; a nephew, Timothy (Mary) Sundby; and a niece, Kari Sundby. Visitation: 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with a 2 p.m. prayer service, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
