M. Grace Halcrow, 95, died Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.
She was born on September 7, 1917, in Bowesmont, ND, the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Teasdale) Halcrow. She grew up in Bowesmont and graduated from High School there. She attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, and graduated from Mayville State Teachers College with a Standard Degree in 1937 and a BA Degree in 1940. Grace advanced her studies at University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis and University of Arizona in Scottsdale, AZ.
Grace taught school in Pittsburg School, Drayton, ND, Newfolden High School, Newfolden, MN, East Grand Forks High School, Barron High School, Barron, WI and Fergus Falls High School (from 1950-1983), retiring after 43 years of teaching.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Fergus Falls, serving on a number of committees, including several times Chairman of the Circles and Treasurer of the Womens Society. She also served as chairman and member of a number of the Teachers Organizations, was president of the Fergus Falls Education Association, Director and President of Western Division of MEA, President of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, President of Retired Teachers Association and a member of National Education Association and AARP.
She loved to knit, was a story teller, had a terrific memory, was a very generous lady and loved her teaching and her students. She had also traveled extensively. Along with her memberships in organizations, Grace volunteered at the Lake Region Hospital Lifeline service and the Otter Tail County Museum, both in Fergus Falls.
Preceding her in death were her parents; five brothers, Paul, as an infant, Raymond, Donald, Charles and Gordon.
Grace is survived by a sister-in-law, Jessie Halcrow of Drayton, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred to Fergus Falls Dollars for Scholars, 601 Randolph Avenue, Fergus Falls MN 56537.
Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Pioneer Care Celebration Center, 1131 Mabelle Avenue, Fergus Falls MN.
Burial will be in the Drayton City Cemetery, Drayton, ND.
