Gordon M. Sundby, 95, of Underwood, died Sunday, December 21, 2008 at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center. He was born November 13, 1913, in Sverdrup Township of Otter Tail County, the son of Carl and Hannah (Moen) Sundby. He was baptized and confirmed at Aurdal Lutheran Church. He attended rural school District #109 and graduated from Morris Agriculture School in 1931. He worked at the Underwood Creamery for five years. On March 13, 1939, he married Clarice Olson; together they farmed in Sverdrup Township for over 40 years. In 1984 they built their retirement home, which they enjoyed for seventeen years. They moved to Tamarack Manor in Underwood in 2001. Gordon had resided at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center since September of 2006. Gordon was an active member of Sverdrup Lutheran Church. He was a 4H club member and leader, served as a school board member of District 112, and belonged to the Senior Citizens of Underwood, the Sons of Norway, and the Historical Society. Gordon loved the outdoors and took much pleasure in caring for his yard, garden, and orchard. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. Preceding him in death were his brothers Joe and Clifford, and his sisters Myrtle Knutson, Helen Sem, and Elizabeth Sundby. Survivors include his wife, Clarice, of Battle Lake; his son, Ken (Jan) Sundby of Bethel; his daughter, Judy (Larry) Shaw of Pillager; four grandchildren: Brent (Trisha) Sundby, Jodi (Russ) Kurtti, Tracy (Richard) Wallin, and Jim (Danielle) Shaw; six great-grandchildren: Kaylee and Mackenzie Shaw, Natalee and Samantha Sundby, and Logan and Braden Wallin; and a sister, Hazel Wilson of Moorhead.
