Gordon L. Hanson

Gordon (Gordy) Lloyd Hanson 80, of Pickerel Lake, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.

He was born September 22, 1933, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of John and Ida (Schmidt) Hanson. He grew up in Fergus Falls, graduating from Fergus Falls High School in 1951.

On August 8, 1952 he married Marjean Nord in Fergus Falls where they raised their four daughters. He began his career working in the appliance industry with local Fergus Falls firms and his own sales and service. He retired in 1995 from Great Plains Natural Gas after 23 years of service.

He was a member of the Elks Club and First Lutheran Church. In his earlier years he loved fishing and hunting, and has always enjoyed woodworking and having a well-kept yard. After retirement, he took up the game of golf (even achieving a hole in one!), enjoyed watching various sports on TV and living at the lake. He and Marjean spent many winters in Florida where they made numerous new friends. Gordy was always “on call” for his daughters and others when asked for help or advice. He could do anything… electrical, plumbing, construction, supervising. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Marjean, of Pickerel Lake; his daughters: Deb Bertelsen (Bob Jordan) of Maplewood MN, Kris Eckley (Mark Leighton) of Fergus Falls, Laurie (Greg) Lundeen, of Green Valley AZ, and Sherrie (Rick) Araskog of Sartell MN; four grandchildren: Breck (Molly) Eckley, Carter Eckley (Sarah Salton), Nathan Araskog (Leslie Meade), and Justin Araskog (Sarah Matt); five great-grandchildren: Destiny and Jaxon Eckley, Cole and Andrew Araskog, and Kaiden Araskog; sister and brother-in-laws: Lucille Schmidt of Hutchinson MN, Violet Scott, Olga Teberg, Larry Kvalheim, and Marvin Hanson, all of Fergus Falls, and Les (Dorothy) Hanson of Chula Vista CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was his son-in-law, Bruce Eckley; his siblings: Elfreda Botts, Bob Hanson, Doris Kvalheim, Irene Anderson, Donald Hanson and LeRoy Hanson; his brother and sister-in-laws: George Botts, Evelyn Hanson, Pat Anderson, Bev Hanson, Al Schmidt, Cliff Scott, Bill Teberg, Nancy Hanson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church
Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls
Clergy: Reverends Saul Stensvaag and Jennifer Rose
Interment: First Lutheran North Cemetery, rural Fergus Falls at a later date.
