Glen L. Merz, 82, of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Ecumen Evergreens of Moorhead Assisted Living in Moorhead.

Glen Lawrence Merz was born November 26, 1941 in Fergus Falls to Lawrence and Irene (Libbey) Merz. He attended and graduated from school in Fergus Falls. Glen worked with his dad, Lawrence, washing potatoes, bagging, and selling them.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving for four years in Colorado Springs, CO and Tacoma, WA. Glen was a flight simulator instructor for pilots. After the Air Force, Glen attended Wahpeton School of Science, where he studied electrical technology. He worked for Minnkota Power Cooperative in Grand Forks, ND. From there he came back to Fergus Falls to work with his dad building Dynamic Homes. After that he worked for Otter Tail Power in Fergus Falls, until his retirement.

On June 21, 1964 Glen married Ruth Batzlaff at Rock Prairie Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake.

Glen had many hobbies. He worked at a photo shop in Fergus Falls with Bob Fritz. He loved taking pictures, took pictures for the school year book, and always captured memories of his family. Glen was a gun enthusiast, who was an active member of the Fergus Falls Rifle and Pistol Club. For 37 years, you could find him walking around Lake Alice daily.

Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant brother.

Glen is survived by his children, Wayne (Shiela) Merz, Laura Penner (fiancé, Andrew Kueber), and Daniel Merz (significant other, Christy Fontenot); grandchildren, Sasha (Kenny) Riley and Mitchell (Erin Flaharty) Eidsvold; step-grandchildren, Julie Brandenburger, Jesse Schake, Jocelyn Jameson, and Jillisa Schroeder; great-grandchildren, Kalen, Eden, Monica, Madison, and Luna, and several extended great-grandchildren. Also surviving is Glen's foster daughter, Debbie (Keith Fleischauer) Irmen and her family, Victoria (Jon) Augare, Ryan (Heather) Link, Dee (Warren) Oberg, as well as her five grandchildren.

Funeral Service: 12:00 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Olson Funeral and Cremation in Fergus Falls, with visitation one-hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Clergy: Reverend David Strom

Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN
