Glen Lee Hynek, 95, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away Monday, June 26, 2017, at Patriot Assisted Living of Fergus Falls.
He was born on December 12, 1921 in Haddam, Kansas, to Frank and Tenia (Barnett) Hynek. Glen’s mother, Tenia, passed away when he was only six weeks old. He grew up in Washington, Kansas where he attended school.
Glen worked for his uncles and aunts on the farm until WWII began when he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was then stationed on the east coast, serving on the USS Brooklyn, a light cruiser. Upon his discharge he moved to Hastings, Nebraska where he met his future wife, Evelyn Kirckof.
On March 13, 1944, Glen and Evelyn were married in Marysville, Kansas. The couple resided in Hastings, Nebraska, until 1945 when they moved to Fergus Falls.
Glen did a number of jobs, which included, the bowling alley, gas station, and Elk River Concrete. He began his career with the City of Fergus Falls on April 15, 1960, working in the water department, and retired on December 31, 1984.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling. Glen was a member of Sverdrup Lutheran Church, the VFW, and the Eagles.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Evelyn on February 23, 2006; infant sister, Viola; sisters, Stella and Bessie; and three brothers, Adolph, Louis, and Edward.
Survivors include his twin sons, Ron (Diane) of Milton, FL, and Don (Carol) of Mechanicsville, VA; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one step great-grandchild.
Memorials preferred to Lakeland Hospice or Lake Region Healthcare Cancer and Research Center.
