Gladys “Sally” Brendmoen, 87, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2013, at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls.
She was born June 3, 1926, in Mayville, North Dakota, the second of 12 children born to John and Helga (Groven) Linerud of Portland, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at the Bang Lutheran Church in Portland. Sally attended school in Portland and Pillsbury, North Dakota, and graduated from Pillsbury High School as Valedictorian with the class of 1943. In her early years Sally worked in local cafes.
In March of 1945 Sally rode by train to Louisiana, and on March 12, 1945, she married Vern D. Brendmoen in Gretna, LA, near the Army base where Vern was stationed. After their marriage they lived in New Orleans, LA, and San Francisco, CA while Vern served in the Army. After his discharge, the couple returned to North Dakota, making their home in Valley City where Sally worked for a time at Montgomery Wards. They later moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Sally was a Cub Scout den mother, and a volunteer at local elementary schools. For many years she worked in Fergus Falls as a freelance crafter for HomeSpun Charm, a craft store in Valley City.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Vern, her parents, grandparents, and siblings, Helen, Joe, Shirley and Donald.
Survivors include three sons: Terry (Nancy) Brendmoen of Champlin, Michael (Jody) Brendmoen of Fergus Falls, and Scott (Wendy) Brendmoen of Underwood; grandchildren: Kimberly (Jeff) of Aitkin, Kerry (Nikki) of Minneapolis, Kevin of Fridley, Jordan of Champlin, and Brittany and Brandon of Fergus Falls; great-grandchildren: Andrew, Kristi, Chase, Cody, Brandi, Jesse, Dillon, Trevor, Joey and Katlina; great-great grandchildren: Layla, Jayden, and Waylon; and siblings: Ruth, Gunda, Dagny, Myron, Betty, Larry, and Linda.
Visitation: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home
Service: 1 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013, at the Olson Funeral Home
