Gladys Vivian Ouse, 86, a resident of Rothsay, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota. She lived her entire life in the Rothsay farming community.
She was born February 8, 1927 on the family farm near Rothsay, Minnesota to Lars and Mathilda Trosvik. She grew up in a large family and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School.
In 1951 Gladys married Lloyd Ouse and they celebrated 62 years of marriage earlier this month. They had four children, Dawn, Steven, Lisa, and Vanessa. She was active in her children's school, church and 4-H organizations.
Lloyd and Gladys farmed and raised beef cattle west of Rothsay. In 1966 they were the Valley Farmer and Homemaker at the Crookston Winter Show. They continued to reside at the farm after Steve took over operations.
Gladys was a great cook and baker. Her caramel rolls were a special favorite of her four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers Art, Mel and Orville Trosvik, sisters Margaret Scheer and Florence Haugrud, and a daughter, Vanessa Grindberg in 2002.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Ouse of Rothsay; her children, Dawn (Michael) Leitch, Brainerd, MN, Steven Ouse, Rothsay, MN, Lisa (Jon) Brakke, Fargo, ND, and son-in-law Tony (Karen) Grindberg of Fargo, ND; and four grandchildren, M'Erin (Ben Sallis) Leitch, London, UK, Maraigh (Brian) Mills, Denver, CO, and Ashlyn and Chase Grindberg, Fargo, ND. She is also survived by brothers Sylvester (Joyce) Trosvik, Rothsay, Earl (Jane) Trosvik, Pelican Rapids and sisters Leola Velo, Pelican Rapids, and Rose Hanson, Wolverton, MN.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday at New Life Lutheran Church in Rothsay with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial Service: 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at New Life Lutheran Church in Rothsay
