Gladys Onstad

Gladys Adeline (Nygaard) Onstad, 85, formerly of Underwood, MN, passed away Saturday, April 09, 2011 at the Park View Nursing Home in Woodville, WI. She was born on January 23, 1926 in Underwood, Minnesota, the daughter of Alfred & Olga (Sande) Nygaard. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood. She attended Underwood Public Schools and graduated in 1943. After graduation she worked in the office for Gamble’s Hardware Store and Sverdrup Mutual Insurance. She also worked at O’Meara’s Department Store. On June 28, 1951, Gladys married Wilfred K. Onstad at Sverdrup Lutheran Church. After marriage they lived on the family farm in Sverdrup Township where they raised their three children: Mary, Gail and Keith. In 2002 Gladys moved to the Park Place Senior Apartments in Woodville, Wisconsin to be near her family. For the past three years she has been a resident at Park View Nursing Home in Woodville. Gladys enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and watching TV. Her family will remember many wonderful holiday dinners and baked goodies. Gladys loved visits from family, especially keeping up with the activities of her three grandsons. Gladys’ deep and abiding faith were an inspiration to her, her family, and many people who cared for her in recent years.  Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wilfred, and son, Keith Onstad, a sister, Ruth Onstad; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Muriel and Knute Pederson, a brother-in-law, Roy Leitch; and a nephew, Gary Leitch.  She is survived by her daughters Mary (Rev. Keith) Anderson of Woodville, WI, and Gail Onstad of Minnetonka, MN. She is also survived by her grandsons, Kyle Anderson of St. Paul, MN, Trevor Anderson of Minneapolis, MN, and Reid Anderson of Minneapolis, MN; sisters-in-law, Florence Leitch and Carol (Wesley) Mavis; brother-in-law, Vernon Onstad; and nieces and nephews.
