Gladys (Obright) Breeton, 97, a resident of Underwood, died Saturday, January 23, 2016, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
Gladys (Obright) Breeton, the daughter of Andrew Gustaf and Selma (Olson) Salomonson was born on March 29, 1918, on the farm in Ruso, North Dakota. Gladys attended school in Benedict, North Dakota. Her family moved to farm near Battle Lake, Minnesota, in 1940.
Gladys married Alfred Obright on October 26, 1942. Gladys and Alfred farmed for many years. Later when Alfred traveled for his job, Gladys continued to milk cows on her own until the mid 70’s. She also worked cleaning cabins and houses in the Underwood area.
After Alfred passed away in 1986, Gladys married Helmer Breeton on April 27, l996. They lived in a home on Bass Lake and later moved into an apartment in Tamarack Manor in Underwood. When Helmer passed away in 2012, Gladys continued to live in Tamarack Manor, until moving to an assisted living residence in Fergus Falls during 2014.
Gladys’s greatest joy was raising her children and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was well-known for her amazing Sunday dinners. An avid gardener with a green thumb, she created a secret recipe for garlic dill pickles enjoyed by family and friends. She loved playing any kind of card games, particularly whist and cribbage, and jigsaw puzzles. She was an excellent seamstress and handcrafted beautiful quilts for all of her grandchildren throughout the years. MOST IMPORTANTLY, GLADYS LIVED LIFE WITH A QUIET STRENGTH AND A SMILE!
Blessed to have had her in their lives are her four children and spouses: the late Robert (Betty) Obright of Dent, MN; the late Sandra (Dennis) Delzer of Dalton, MN; LaDonna (Robin) Eggum of Inver Grove Heights, MN; and Llewellyn (Cynthia) Obright of Underwood, MN; 9 grandchildren: Sherrie Obright, Jeremy Obright, Tanya (Frank) Nelson, Jesse Obright, Trina Delzer, Todd Delzer, Lauren Eggum, Lucas (Cristina) Eggum and Abby Obright; 4 great-grandchildren: Josie, Jaron, and Jenna Klingberg; and Aiden Obright.
In lieu of flowers, the Family of Gladys requests memorials to be made to Silent Vale Cemetery.
