Gladys Kastella, 95, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at the Broen Memorial Home, Fergus Falls.
She was born October 4, 1918, in rural Wendell, Grant County, Minnesota, the daughter of Martin and Emily (Holte) Kastella. She grew up in Stony Brook Township, of Grant County and attended rural school District 12. She graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1937 and then attended Nurses Training at Abbot Northwestern in Minneapolis.
Following her schooling, she moved to Jamestown, ND, where she worked at the Crippled Childrens School and later worked at MeritCare in Fargo, ND. She returned to Minneapolis where she received training in anesthesia. Upon completion of her training, she began working at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, retiring after 25 years as a Nurse Anesthetist.
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and it’s ladies groups and loved handwork, knitting and quilting.
Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Everett.
Survivors include her brother, Kermit (Lorraine) Kastella of Fergus Falls; four nephews, Peter (Debra) Kastella of Wisconsin, Jim (Carolyn) Kastella of Moorhead, Kurt (Patricia) Kastella of Underwood, and Scott Kastella of rural Fergus Falls; one great-nephew, Miles; and two great-nieces, Kristin (Tyler) Paulson and Marie (Shane McNamara).
Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the funeral home
Service: 2 pm Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the Olson Funeral Home chapel, Fergus Falls
Clergy: Reverend Kate Bruns and Chaplain Ken Austin
Interment: Bethlehem Cemetery, Fergus Falls
