Gladys Vivian Furreness, 87, a resident of rural Underwood, passed Friday, May 25, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her family and LB Hospice.
She was born September 13, 1930, in Breckenridge, the daughter of Clarence and Ella (Degner) Hansen. She was baptized and confirmed in Campbell, attended elementary school in Doran and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1948. Following her graduation, she worked at the Register of Deeds office in the Fergus Falls Courthouse.
On October 12, 1957, she married Orville Furreness in Campbell. After their marriage, they moved to rural Underwood, working together on the family farm.
She was a member of Sverdrup Lutheran Church and a Circle group. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, spending time with her grandchildren and helping on their dairy farm. Gladys was a devoted wife and mother. She was a wonderful helpmate to her husband, hardworking and caring for her family, putting their needs first before her own. She is honored and loved and will be greatly missed.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Roger and sisters, Bernice, Dorthy and Eleanor.
Survivors include her husband, Orville; children, Beth (Neil) Chell of Apple Valley, Ione Furreness of Inver Grove Heights and Jon Furreness of Kenosha, WI; grandchildren, Carly Chell, Cody Chell, Jasmine Chapman and Mary Furreness.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018, with a prayer service at 6:30 at the funeral home and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Sverdrup Lutheran Church, Underwood

Interment: Sverdrup Cemetery, Underwood
