Gertrude Strinden

Gertrude “Trudy” Marcelle Strinden, 88, of Roseville, formerly of rural Pelican Rapids, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Johanna Shores in Arden Hills, Minnesota.
She was born on March 30, 1925 in rural Pelican Rapids to P. Conrad and Emma (Grefsrud) Strinden. She attended School District #78 in Trondhjem Township and later graduated with the Pelican Rapids Class of 1942. Following High School she went to Concordia College in Moorhead from 1942 to ’44 and then earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Minnesota in Home Economics and Education in 1946. Later she attended Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich. where she received her Master’s Degree in Vocational Education. While working and teaching at the University of Minnesota, Trudy earned her PhD in Higher Education.
Her teaching career spanned several decades starting in Chatfield, MN where she taught in the High School during ’46-47. She then took a position with the University of Minnesota in Morris in food management as well as teaching in the High School from 1947 to ’52. Then she moved to the University of Minnesota in Waseca where she taught in the Home Ec. Department until 1970. From 1970 until her retirement in ’89 she was with the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus where she taught and was an administrator in the College of Home Economics.
She was a life-long member of the South Immanuel Lutheran Church near Rothsay, where she was baptized and confirmed.
Trudy enjoyed nature, reading, and loved animals and traveling. She always had an interest in people, influencing many lives in a positive way.
Preceding her death were her parents, two brothers C. Edmond and Arlington Strinden.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Arlyss Strinden Bjornson of Barnesville, a cousin, Connie Michealson of Fergus Falls and her children, Dale Michealson of Morris and Ruth Johnson of Fergus Falls, several other cousins, special friends Pat and Norm Mofjeld, along with many other friends.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the funeral home
Service: 1 p.m. Monday, October 21, 2013, at the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls
