Gertrude Smith

Gertrude Ann Smith, 83, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, September 15, 2012 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She was born May 3, 1929, in Foxhome, Minnesota the daughter of Bert and Margaret (Kapell) Johnson. In 1947 she married Russell Smith and they settled in Fergus Falls where they raised their family. Gertrude worked for various Fergus Falls businesses in her lifetime, among them Town and Country, Pamida, Piggly Wiggly, and Don’s 10 to 10. She taught Sunday school, and was a Brownie leader, and a Cub Scout leader. She was an excellent cook and loved gathering her family around for celebrations. Preceding her in death were her husband of 62 years, Russell, and their son, Russell Jr. Survivors include her daughter, Diane (Dennis) Ewert of Fergus Falls; son, Bruce (Sheri) Smith of Ponsford; four grandchildren: Chris (Stephanie) Ewert, Hope (Chris) Barta, Missy (Lee) Keller, and Lynn Connors-Smith; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim (Pat) Johnson and John (Bev) Johnson; sisters, Lois (Otto) Anderson, and Janet (Dave) Moore; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Olson Funeral Home Chapel, Fergus Falls.
