Gertrude Irene Borowski, 105, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, January 09, 2009, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. Gertrude was born on April 13, 1903 in Orwell Township, the fourth oldest of eight children born to John and Lucy (Grant-Woodworth) Westerberg. She attended District 222 country school. She married Harold Borowski on May 12, 1929 in Breckenridge. The couple farmed in Orwell Township, later moving to Rock Island, IL for a brief time and later returned to Fergus Falls, where she has lived since. She worked at De Sota in Fergus Falls, where she candled eggs. After Harold’s death, Gertrude moved to the Green Acres Trailer Park, and during that time became friends with Hilmer Lind. She moved to the Broen Memorial Home in 2001. Gertrude enjoyed dancing, babysitting her grandchildren and keeping in touch with her siblings. She was a very caring and giving person. Preceding her in death was her husband, Harold, who died in 1981; daughter, Elizabeth “Bettie” Olson, who died in 1994; daughter-in-law, Marlene Borowski; all her siblings, Rollin Westerberg, Lucille Caulkins, Katherine Sha, Genevieve Loomer, Raymond Westerberg, Emily Enderson and Paul Westerberg; special friend, Helmer Lind. Survivors include two sons, William (Janice) of Fergus Falls, and Jack (special friend Florence Ziemer) of Glenwood; six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren, son-in-law, Lyle Olson of Fergus Falls; sister-in-law, Bernice (Mrs. Paul) Westerberg of Nampa, ID; along with several special nieces and nephews. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the Light and Life Auditorium. Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Light and Life Auditorium at the Broen Memorial Home.
