Geraldine Frances Johnson, 80, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls after a courageous battle against cancer.
Gerry was born March 9, 1933, at her Grandma Stock’s home on Vernon Avenue in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Arthur and Helen (Dunlap) Stock. She grew up in Buse Township attending school at District #29 and Washington High School, graduating in 1950.
On September 24, 1954 she married Loran Leo Johnson at the Federated Church in Fergus Falls. She worked at North Star Dairy until 1957 and after raising her family returned to work at Mid America Dairy until her retirement in 1993.
Gerry was a lifelong member of the Federated Church. After her retirement Gerry volunteered at Lake Region Hospital, the Area Agency on Aging, and helped deliver Meals by Wheels. She will be remembered for her hospitality, cooking, baking, and her dedication as a wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Phoebe Loomer; and brothers-in-law, LeRoy Bach, Harlin Johnson and Elton Johnson.
Survivors include Loran, her husband of 58 years; her children: Lori (Wesley) Beske of Fergus Falls, Lindsay (Debra) Johnson of Dubuque, Iowa, Lisa (Kent) Vogel and Kurt (Sonja) Johnson of Fergus Falls; seven grandchildren: Matthew (Teresa) Beske, Christa (Ryan) Smith, Nicholas Johnson, Marissa, Keianna and Hayden Vogel, and Joseph Cooper; two great-grandchildren: Harvey and Chloe Beske; her sisters: Beverly Bach, Patricia (Darel) Jacobson, and Mary (Wallace) Moe; brother-in-law, John Loomer; sisters-in-law, Delores Johnson and Florence Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Federated Church or the Cancer Care and Research Center of Fergus Falls.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
