Gerald W. Kubitz, 82, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the JoHannah House in Ashby.
He was born September 7, 1932 in Friberg Township, rural Erhard to William H. Sr. and Yolanda J. (Kenyon) Kubitz. He grew up in Friberg Township and attended country school up until 8th grade.
Gerald entered the United States Army March 31, 1953 and was stationed in Korea and Guam serving in the Korean War. He was discharged on March 5, 1955 and for his service received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Korean Service Medal.
He was married on October 12, 1957 to Irene Helen Brown in Dalton. Gerald worked as a farmer, carpenter and auto mechanic for Worner’s Auto Sales while living in Fergus Falls. Irene passed away April 7, 1965.
On April 17, 1966 he was united in marriage to Marian Arlene Anderson in Livingston, Montana.
While in Montana, Gerald worked for Montana Travertine Quarries and Yellowstone National Park Service.
Gerald was a past member of West Central Stock Car Racing Association and Independent Order of Forresters.
He enjoyed repairing engines, welding, woodworking, stock car racing, hunting, jigsaw puzzles and collecting John Deere memorabilia.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wives, Irene and Marian.
He is survived by his children, Pamela (Bradley) Bice of Dalton, Nancy (Jeffrey) Larson of Tioga, ND, Jody (Laura) Kubitz of Crystal Lake, IL; grandchildren, Tyler and Abigail Larson, Zachary and Matthew Kubitz; siblings, William Jr. of Pelican Rapids; Donald (Marlys) of Pelican Rapids, Ernest (Joyce) of Pelican Rapids, Marlin (Bernice) of Monticello, Gertrude (Dave) Muckey of Great Falls, MT, Lorice (Vernon) Seeba of Fergus Falls, Luella (Vernon) Stramer of Ashby, Rebecca (Joseph) Vogel of Hampton, Glendora Nosal of Perham; aunt, Gladys Kenyon; uncle, Roland (Evie) Kenyon. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 1-1/2 hours prior to the service at Broen Memorial Home Light and Life Auditorium in Fergus Falls.
Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2014 at Broen Memorial Home Light and Life Auditorium in Fergus Falls.
