Gerald Drews

Gerald "Gerry" Drews, 93, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Pioneer Home under the care of Knute Nelson Hospice.

Gerry and his twin sister, Geraldeane were born on March 2, 1931 in Dane Prairie Township to Charles and Anna (Schachtschneider) Drews. They were baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He attended Common School District 28, Dane Prairie Township and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1950. For a number of years, he was engaged in farming on the Century Farm purchased by his grandfather in 1902. The farm was named "Serendipity Acres" - which means "A place where something pleasant and unexpected happens." (From the Princes of Serendip of Sri Lank.) The farm is now owned by Clay and Jon Drews. He was employed with the State of Minnesota in the financial management division at the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center for 31 years, retiring in 1997.

On June 9, 1957, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Heggestad at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Lowry, MN. They would have been married for 67 years in June and for 40 years they made their home in Dane Prairie Township and the remainder in Fergus Falls.

He was a member of Trinity and Faith Lutheran Churches. He served as Chairman, Vice Chairman, Elder and other offices at Trinity and Faith Lutheran Churches. He served as clerk of common school districts 1392 and 1498.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Lily Olson, Mabelle Schatke, Esther Mortensen, Charlene Wacha, twin sister Geraldeane Tomhave, and brothers, Julius, Walter, and Edward Drews.

Gerry is survived by his wife, Lorraine; sons, Clayton (Kim Hansen) of Elbow Lake and Jonathan (Julie Melby) of Fergus Falls; four grandchildren, Ryen (Heidi Peterson) Drews, Anna (Travis) Flerchinger, Christian (Angelica Erickson) Drews, and Jeremiah Drews, and great-grandchildren, Abigail Drews, Liam, Aria, and Caleb Flerchinger. He has one remaining sibling, Annlynne Larsen; brother-in-law, Gordon Tomhave; sister-in-law, Barbara Heggestad, and many nieces and nephews.

Service: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, with visitation one-hour prior to the service at the church.

Clergy: Reverend Chris Lieske and Reverend Craig Palach

Interment: Trinity-Faith Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN
