Georgine Martinson

March 30, 1927 — June 4, 2011

Georgine Martinson, 84, a resident of the Pioneer Care facility since 2004, and formerly of Rothsay, died Saturday, June, 4, 2011, at the Lake Region Healthcare, Fergus Falls. She was born March 30, 1927, in Elizabeth, Minnesota the daughter of Oscar and Lilly (Nelson) Wahl. She attended school there in town and graduated from the Pelican Rapids High School. Georgine and Lester Martinson were married by the Reverend Estrem on July 30, 1946 in Pelican Rapids. Together they made their home in Rothsay and operated the meat market and later added a grocery store. For years they operated the Martinson’s Market until their retirement in the early 1980’s. Together they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in July of 1996. Georgine also worked at the Rothsay Truck Stop Cafe. Georgine was a member of the New Life Lutheran Church, its Circles and loved to bake and cook. She enjoyed homemaking and especially decorating their home. Over the years she’s enjoyed time visiting with neighbors, family and their many friends from the years at the Market and going out for meals around the area. Her greatest pleasure while living at the Pioneer Home was playing bingo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother Stanley. Surviving her are two sisters: Helen (Robert) Hanninen of Bloomington, and Marleen (Dennis) Wilczek of Mounds View; two brothers Marlen (Phyllis) Wahl of Bloomington, and Ordean Wahl of Coon Rapids; along with many nieces and nephews. Visitiation: Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home and resumes one hour before the service at the Pioneer Chapel Service: 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at the Pioneer Care Chapel, Fergus Falls Clergy : Reverend Paul Huso and Chaplain Harry Olson Burial: Hamar Cemetery in Rothsay Arrangements: Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, MN
