George Sund

George Elias Sund, 81, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, September 24, 2009, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. He was born April 11, 1928, on the farm in Stony Brook Township near Wendell, Minnesota, the son of Henry and Lilly (Dybdal) Sund. Over the years his family farmed at various farms south of Fergus Falls. In 1942 they settled in Buse Township, where he has lived since. George graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1946. He joined the Air Force in October of 1946, serving in Okinawa, and was discharged in October of 1949. Upon his discharge he returned to the farm where he and Carolyn have made their home. In November of 1970 he and Carolyn Erickson were married at First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. He was a member of the Buse Town Board, the Farmers Elevator Board, First Lutheran Church where he was a former council member, and was a life member of the Fergus Falls VFW. George and Carolyn loved to travel and wintered in Texas for many years. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, one in infancy, and Glenice Hanneman; and one brother, Lourn Sund. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of Fergus Falls; three sisters, Helen Bunkowske of Helena, Montana, Marjorie Iversen of Fergus Falls, and Ethel (Neil) Koebnick of Stewart, Minnesota; two brothers, Earl (Margaret) Sund of Fergus Falls, and Russell (Gladys) Sund of Osakis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation:  5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
