George Dean Fick, 84, a resident of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, August 12, 2024, at Pelican Landing assisted living facility.
He was born November, 23, 1939, in Fargo, ND to Walter A. and Edna (Schleske) Fick. He grew up in Fergus Falls and graduated from Fergus Falls Senior High in 1957.
On May 1, 1959, George married Joan (Rix) at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. On October 8, 1962, he started at Ottertail Power and worked there for 36 years, retiring on April 1, 1998. George served in the Army National Guard for 20 years.
George was a member of the Elks Club being initiated in 1975, served as the Exalted Ruler in 1985 and State President in 1993. He was the project manager for Elks Youth Camp and named Elk of the year from 1986-1987. George also served on the Fergus Falls City Council from 1982-1989 in the First Ward.
He enjoyed woodworking, snowmobiling, time at the lake and golfing. George also followed the Twins, Bison and the Vikings. George enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Edna; wife, Joan; brothers; Orlin (Berdella) Fick, Gordon (Marlys) Fick, Donald (Donnis) Fick, Gerald Fick; sisters Donna (Leon) Johnson, Marlys (Don) Herzog; sisters in-law; Wylene (Albert) Melkert, Charlotte Rix, Lona Rix.
George is survived by his best friend and sister in-law, Beverly Richards of Detroit Lakes, his sons, Todd (Michelle) Fick of Hoffman, MN, Chad (Christine) Fick and Rodney Fick both of Fergus Falls; five grandchildren, Melissa (Jason) Shearer, Terry (Caryl) Fick, Tara (Kent) Proctor, Krista (Chaise) Fick, Carly (Neil) Fick; great-grandchildren, Cole Shearer, Kaylee Shearer, Natalee Shearer, Michael Fick, Ian Fick, Jamison and June Crooker, Drew and Baylor Proctor, and Wren and Delilah Evavold; brothers-in-law; Richard Rix of Hawley and Jim (Betty) Rix of Moorhead; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2024, at First Lutheran Church Fergus Falls, with visitation one-hour prior to the service at the Church.

Military Participation: Fergus Falls, VFW Post 612 and American Legion Post 30
Interment: First Lutheran North Cemetery, Fergus Falls, Minnesota
