Genora Maack

Genora Alice Maack, 87, a former resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday June 10, 2007, at her home at Windmill Ponds in Alexandria. She was born December 13, 1919, in Oscar Township of Otter Tail County, the daughter of Gabriel A. and Clara O. (Aaberg) Wigdahl. She was baptized and confirmed at Hamar Lutheran Church of Rothsay. Genora attended school at District #127 and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1939. On May 4, 1941, she married Walter W. Maack at Hamar Lutheran Church in Rothsay. The couple farmed in Oscar Township, near Underwood, and near Erhard before purchasing a farm in Orwell Township where they farmed from 1949 - 1976. They continued to reside at the farm until 1993, when they moved to Fergus Falls. In 2003 they moved to Alexandria. Since 1949 Genora had been an active member of the Hedemarken Lutheran Church of rural Rothsay, where she was a member of WELCA. She was also a member of the Wilcox Mission Society, Homemakers, Orwell Sunshine Circle, Farmers Club, and served as an Orwell 4H Club leader. Genora's hobbies included quilting, crocheting, knitting, and Norwegian-klokkestreng. Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; and four brothers: John, Alfred, Orwin, and Walter. Survivors include her three children: Wyonne Long of Oslo, Norway, Paul (Mary Lou) Maack of Alexandria, and Gregory (Mary Beth) Maack of Noblesville, Indiana; six grandchildren: Erik Long, Michelle (Charles) Friederichs, Sheila (Douglas) Hegg, Jennifer and Kristin Maack, and Molly Maack; six great-grandchildren: Zoe, Sydney, Will and Cooper Friederichs, Stormy and Logan Hegg; and one brother, William (Nora) Wigdahl of Lake Park, MN. Memorials are preferred to the Morning Watch or the Hedemarken Cemetery Fund. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with a 6 p.m. prayer service, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
