Genevieve Marquard

Genevieve "Gen" Ann Marquard, 72, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, September 7, 2007 at Lake Region Hospital surrounded by her family and under the loving care of Lakeland Hospice after a courageous battle with ALS. Gen was born on July 27, 1935 in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Albin and Gunda (Ostrum) Dahl. She was baptized and confirmed and a life time member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Elizabeth. She attended rural school and graduated from Washington High School in 1953. She worked for City Bakery from 1953 to 1960. She then went to work for Otter Tail County Public Health and Social Services for 37 years. On December 2, 1966, she married Arvid Gunderson. The couple had one son, Eric. They made their home on Wall Lake, where Gen continued to live after Arvid died in July 1977. Gen moved from Wall Lake into Fergus Falls in 1993. On May 25, 1996, she married Larry Marquard and they made their home in Fergus Falls. She was a member of the Eagles Club and the V. F.W. Auxillary. She enjoyed doing puzzle and word find books, jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo, traveling, reading, bird watching and spending summers at Ten Mile Lake. She will be remembered as someone who always recognized every family and friend with a card for birthday and anniversaries. She was a very loving mother, who never hung up the phone with her son without saying "I Love You" first. Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, Arvid. Survivors include her husband, Larry Marquard of Fergus Falls; son, Eric Gunderson and his long time companion, Gregg VanGinhoven of Fargo; one brother, Kenneth Dahl of Fergus Falls; stepchildren, Coleen (Dan) Stinchfield of Elizabeth, Steve (Debbie) Marquard of Fergus Falls, Brian Marquard of Fergus Falls; stepgrandchildren; Erin (Joby) Johnson, Ann (Mike) Justus, Bree (Gary) Snaza and Brandon Marquard; six step-great grandchildren, Audrey, Shelby, Brayden, Zachary, Kendalle and Madisyn. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred toLakeland Hospice or Augustana Lutheran Cemetery Association, Elizabeth.
