Gene Marty, 60, a resident at Elizabeth Country Breezes Foster Care in rural Elizabeth, Minnesota, died Sunday, November 13, 2011, at his home. Gene was born on March 28, 1951 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Leo and Margaret (Bouressa) Marty. He was born with Down’s Syndrome and lived at home with his family until he was six years old. He then lived in the Cambridge, Brainerd and Fergus Falls State Hospitals. He moved into a group home for a short period of time and from there into Dillard’s Foster Home and later to Elizabeth’s Country Breezes Foster Home. He started working at DAC when they opened in Elizabeth and worked there until he retired in March of 2011. He enjoyed his job, which included vacuuming, collecting the garbage and cleaning on and off site. Gene knew his way around town and everyone knew him. He loved sports of any kind, especially baseball, football and basketball. He went to many area games and also loved going to the Twins and Timberwolves games. He also enjoyed listening to country music and attending old time music dances. Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother, Harold, a sister-in-law, Christa, and a brother-in-law, Kent Gowers. Survivors include his brothers, Jim (Janice) Marty, Leo “Sonny” (Mary Lou) Marty, Roger Marty, David (Sharon) Marty; sisters, Sharon Gowers, Marge Ringquist; sister-in-law, Mary Marty. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with a public prayer service at 7 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Elizabeth, MN. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Elizabeth, MN Clergy: Father Stan Wieser Burial: St. Leonard’s Catholic Cemetery, Pelican Rapids Arrangements: Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, MN
