Gene C Martinson

Gene Carroll Martinson, 81, of Underwood died Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at the Broen Home, Fergus Falls.

He was born January 31, 1937, son of Harry and Viola (Toso) Martinson. He attended school in Rothsay and graduated in 1955.

On December 16, 1961, he was united in marriage to Linda Lee (Nelson) at Tordenskjold Church in Underwood.

Gene was an Air Force Medic serving in Cheyenne, WY and Thule Greenland. For 43 years, he was the owner-operator of Martinson Trucking, hauling livestock, grain and hay out of Rothsay and Underwood. He also operated collectible, antique and used merchandise stores, at The Depot and Bass Lake Relics, at Underwood from 2001-2012.

He was a member of Sverdrup Church of Underwood, Fire Chief of the Rothsay Fire Department, served on the Underwood City Council, and NFO Trucker.

Gene enjoyed going to auction sales, following the markets and a good game of cards - Poker, Texas Hold ‘Em, or Whist.

Preceding him death were his parents; mother and father in-law, George and Edna Nelson; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Rudy) Johansen.

Survivors include his wife Linda; children Kristi Martinson Tjaden of Mendota Heights and Kerri Jean (Robert) Fouquette of Erhard; siblings, Bonnie Lankow of Cedar Rapids, IA, Sharon Dietschman of Willmar, Ron and Nancy Martinson of Hutchinson and Tim and Jody Martinson of Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren, Isaak and Amelia Tjaden, Marie Fouquette (Sheldon Marty), Konnie Fouquette (Mack McKeag) and Kammie Bleu Fouquette; great-grandchildren Kinzley, Rylie and Sully McKeag; sisters-in-laws, JoAnne Rustad, Ethel (Frank) Mickelson and Sandra (Arthur) Krueger; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Sverdrup Church, Underwood
Clergy: Reverend Martha Halls
Interment: Tordenskjold Cemetery, Underwood, MN
