Gena Nelson, 99, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, November 4, 2007, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. She was born July 10, 1908, in Ashby, Minnesota, one of ten children of Gilbert and Mary (Runningen) Boe. She was baptized and confirmed at Pelican Lake Church in Ashby, and attended Ashby Public School She worked as a waitress in Fergus Falls, Minneapolis and California. She was then employed as a clerk at Norby's Department Store in Fergus Falls for a number of years. After her marriage to Tom Nelson she worked with him in the atlas business until her retirement. Gena married Arnold Spiten in 1935. He passed away April 29, 1952. On February 10, 1957, she married Thomas O. Nelson in Biloxi, Mississippi. He passed away on July 17, 1996. She entered the Broen Home on June 8, 2007. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she participated in the WELCA and V.S.P. groups. Preceding her in death were her parents, Gilbert and Mary Boe; her first husband, Arnold Spiten, and her second husband, Thomas O. Nelson; six brothers: Oscar, Edward, Selmer, Odin, Roy, and Gilford; three sisters: Mable Knutson, Ruth Grant, and Alice Boe; and two nieces and ten nephews. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Gladys (Nelson) Augsbach of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
